    Pre-Derive Guide Questions
    1: What captures my attention?
    2: What do I feel?
3: What is running through my mind?
    4: Who is there?
    5: Where am I going?
    6: What do I smell?
    7: What do I hear?
    Answers:
1: What captured my attention about this particular cemetery was that I live near it yet my knowledge on the text is very limited.
2: Walking through Forrest Lawn made me feel anxious in a weird way because in the back of my mind I felt like what I was doing was illegal.
3: I seriously kept on thinking about negative situations that could come from being there. I would try to think that what I was doing was for educational purposes but damn I still felt disrespectful because dead people surrounded me, with all due respect. Even the thought of an apocalypse hit me.
4: Stephanie, Jose and James and I also took a trip there by myself.
5: We were literally wondering through the whole building just scoping whatever seemed interesting but we didn't have a specific approach.
6: When entering the cemetery you cant help but smell the pollen that comes from the flowers you also smell grass and not dead bodies like many would believe. The cemetery is nicely preserved as well as cleaned.
7: You can hear birds chirping and the footsteps you take while walking in the halls, you occasionally hear families or just plain silence.

    Derive Notes
It's very sudden when you are somewhere you would have never expected yourself to be, for educational purposes I am here roaming the halls and walking the grass with bodies underneath me. The sadness I used to feel disappeared in the halls of the beautiful white building with art and colors so bright. Although I am in a place where the diseased have been placed beauty is everywhere. I wont lie the sad feeling of knowing that these people are no more does hurt but when I pushed beyond that sad feeling I found that these people that used to be are now living in peace so maybe the grass is greener on the other side.
On a less serious level I also consider that there is a North Gate Market literally across the street. I go there all the time and it doesn't bother me at all but now that I'm in the cemetery I see that life still goes on outside these walls.
I realized that life and death aren't so different.

    Post-Derive Review/Questions

As we drove into the cemetery, far in the lawn, there is a funeral ceremony -taking place, Empty cars filled the driveway, black out fits stand under canopies for shading from the burning California sun. We drove by as we headed to the front parking lot. The parking lot situated in front of the cathedral. My classmates and I got of the car and looked up towards the tall standing cathedral when of the side of my eye helium filled balloon’s fly away as if they had just been released. They had, just been released they came from the funeral ceremony we had just drove by. Another life is gone up to heaven or so I hope.

    4. How will the inside of the cathedral look?
Having not even taken five steps into the cathedral, “Immediately I saw wall crypts for cremated remains” both to my left and right easily numbering over thirty. 6. What do I smell? Do the smells change?
Entering the cathedral, I smell a clean smell hard to explain, as I continue my walk, the smell changes to incense; then again, candle sent fills my nose, further in again the smell changes, to what?? I don’t know. Could it be marble? Everything here is cover in marble. I keep walking and again the smell changes. It changed about five times but not once was there a foul odor.

    7. What do I hear?
The noise from the approaching cars lingering through the cathedral stained windows but the beautiful sounds of the pendulum is what I felt inside my body, knowing that this can easily represent beating of my heart.

    3. The best part was when my friend Charles got scared by the Human Robot. Its a man completely covered in gold paint and glitter that stands still until people get close. Then he moves like a robot when they pass. Most people think he's fake so he always get people.

And that just got me thinking about how safe is it, will I be mugged in the night. I left Hollywood late around 3:00 a.m. And the sweater I took wasn't enough.
    3. What was running through my mind that night was " fuck I have work tomorrow at 6 am" and just thinking of the fact I had to go kinda ruined my night just a little bit. Another thing was seeing all the homeless sleeping on the streets or corners and people just walking by, some where older people but most were young adults. I also felt people looking at me while I would take pictures at stars and the streets and have judgement faces.
    4. Three of my friends went with me Michelle, Alejandra, and Adan and people I was were the workers, police patrolling, homeless, the locals and tourists.
    5. The place I choose to go was Hollywood The Walk of Fame. I've lived in this county all my life and never been to The walk of fame.
    6. What I smelled that night was hotdogs being cooked then and there. Also where was mess everywhere and it didn't smell like anything good and mixed with car fumes.
    7. That night I heard people trying to sell me mixtapes, paintings. Then I would be offered to get a tattoo. I would hear my friends asking to take pictures of me with the stars and the people there.

    1: Derive Notes:
On my way there I was thinking about all the movies I've seen and all the actors and singers I like, and thought will I see there star ? Do they have a star? And I just want to answer these questions that I thought of. Also remember how that street has been featured in movies and made look nice and talked about by many in a good way. But when I was there I saw the thick line of rich and poor. How you have people thousand dollar bags at louis vuitton and across the street there's two homeless sharing their food. And they just don't show that side in the movies or when a actor/ actress or singer is getting his or her star. So it was interesting being able to see the whole picture and not just a portion.
    Post-Derive Review/Questions
1: What did I get out of the experience?
2: What do I remember most?
    Answers:
1: I got to see how everything has changed for the time the first star was given to the most recent. And I got to see how it actually looks through my perspective instead of the one I see on tv.
2: I remember getting there and I was just overwhelmed with the amount of people are just that go to take pictures and walk around at that time of night. Because for them it might be the first time seeing the stars and their last because they could be from a different state or country.
